about

This is a true story from my mother's side of the family. Being German and growing up in Nazi Germany, she has some rough stories, but this one is the roughest and song worthy. It's about her cousin and his family. Afraid of the imminent Russian invasion and rumors of horrible atrocities committed toward citizens by Russian-Mongolian soldiers, the parents (my mom's uncle and aunt) of this family opted to kill their three children (my mom's cousins) and themselves.

Family Tree © Brian Straub 2/20/10

The BBC says their stopping at the boarder of Poland
I don’t know if I believe what they say
The BBC, they don’t live at my house
Maybe it’s better if we’re all dead by the end of the day

Martha, your brother-in-law says he knows
But if the Russians breach the boarder we’re through
I’m afraid for us to take that chance
We better do it to ourselves before they do

Chorus

And Martha will they see us in the family tree?
Will they be able to feel what I see?
And I don’t know no other way
God have mercy on judgment day

Martha call the boy home from the cousin’s
Just tell him it’s time to come home
I’ll bring all the little ones inside
Start dinner as soon as you’re off the phone

This is our last supper
But I don’t think they’ll put me on a cross
They’ll cry and then they will curse me
But waiting to suffer is a higher cost

Instrumental break – first three lines of chorus

Chorus
Repeat last line of chorus 2X

This year (2016), I started Dog House Prayers and began documenting more of my songs through home recording. ... more
