about

The fiddle part is played by Blaine Sprouse. he has played with Bill Monroe (in the studio and on the Grand Ole Opry) and recorded for Johnny Cash, Alabama, Pam Tillis, Jim and Jesse, the Osborne Brothers and countless others. I met him at PSGW where he teaches fiddle. A couple of friends gave me the idea to do an impromptu "GoFundMe" campaign to pay for him to be on my CD. I sold my other CD, Jail House Prayers, with a small upcharge and raised the money to record him right there at camp.

lyrics

Push On Home © Brian Straub 4/7 &11/15

Verse 1

I’ve been a butcher, a baker, a candlestick maker
I’ve never known ‘til I was already there
Fruit picker, grinner, or just an order taker
Watching the clock in my monkey suit, just don’t care

I’ll get somewhere, someday, sometime soon
Even though I’ve been a sailor, can’t steer by the moon
Time to stop self-fulfilling bad prophecies
It feels good to get off of my knees

Chorus

And it’s time to push on home
It’s time to push on home
Oh it’s time to push on home

The easy way out is getting hard
Been second guessing what’s written in stone
Don’t know how I ever even got this far
But it’s time to push on home
Instrumental Verse

Chorus

Bridge

Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh

This hard livin’s race is run
Ain’t second guessing what’s written in stone
Starting now, a new life’s begun
And it’s time to push on home

Chorus 2X

My two previous bands, Armadillo Borealis and Secondhand Sunday, performed and recorded some of my songs that are represented here. This year (2016), I started Dog House Prayers and began documenting more of my songs through home recording. ... more
